Composte quasi esclusivamente da lettere e documenti \u201csciolti\u201d (in originale e in copia), le \u201cCarte\u201d, oggi rilegate in 22 volumi, giunsero in quello che allora era l\u2019Archivio Segreto Vaticano in pi\u00f9 riprese (un primo nucleo nel 1885) e con modalit\u00e0 diverse (donazione, acquisto, ecc.). La documentazione consiste per la gran parte nel carteggio intercorso tra Roma, il cardinal Alessandro Farnese jr e i legati pontifici al Concilio di Trento. L\u2019importanza delle \u201cFarnesiane\u201d \u2013 soprattutto degli originali \u2013, non sfugg\u00ec all\u2019attenzione dei ricercatori inviati in Vaticano dal R\u00f6mische Institut der G\u00f6rres-Gesellschaft (Ehses e Buschbell su tutti), che presero ad indagarle nel 1895 e se ne servirono per il decimo volume del <em>Concilium Tridentinum. Diariorum, actorum, epistularum, tractatuum<\/em>, pubblicato nel 1916. Le \u201cCarte\u201d rappresentano solo una piccola porzione del grande Archivio Farnesiano, oggi disperso tra Parma, Napoli e, appunto, l\u2019Archivio Apostolico Vaticano.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em>The \u201cCarte Farnesiane\u201d in the Vatican Apostolic Archive<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This essay explores the historical and archival background of a small collection known as the \u2018Carte Farnesiane\u2019, which is preserved in the Vatican Apostolic Archive. Consisting almost entirely of letters and loose documents (both original and copied), the \u2018Carte\u2019 is now bound into 22 volumes. It arrived at the Vatican Secret Archive (as it was then known) in several batches (the first in 1885) and through various means (donation, purchase, etc.). Most of the documentation consists of correspondence exchanged between Rome, Cardinal Ales- sandro Farnese Jr. and the papal legates at the Council of Trent. The importance of the \u2018Farnesiane\u2019 \u2014 especially the original documents \u2014 did not escape the attention of scholars sent to the Vatican by the R\u00f6mische Institut der G\u00f6rres-Gesellschaft (notably Ehses and Busch- bell), who began investigating them in 1895 and used them for the tenth volume of <em>Concilium Tridentinum: Diariorum, actorum, epistularum, tractatuum<\/em>. <em>Diariorum, actorum, epistularum, tractatuum<\/em> was published in 1916.
