Il Museo dell\u2019Impero Romano (1927), la Mostra Augustea della Romanit\u00e0 (1937-1938) e l\u2019esempio delle <em>Galliae<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">L\u2019idea di Roma antica e della romanit\u00e0 pu\u00f2 considerarsi un esempio di \u00abinvenzione della tradizione\u00bb (Hobsbawm, Ranger 1983). Quest\u2019idea \u2013 elevata al rango di mito \u2013 si intreccia infatti al processo di costruzione dell\u2019identit\u00e0 nazionale e legittima scelte o autorit\u00e0 politiche in tutta Europa. Prendendo in considerazione l\u2019Italia, si pu\u00f2 citare a titolo d\u2019esempio la lettura fascista di questo mito, con i suoi corollari del \u00abprimato\u00bb, della \u00abcontinuit\u00e0\u00bb, della \u00abmissione imperiale\u00bb (Canfora 1976). Una testimonianza materiale di questo mito pu\u00f2 esser individuata nel Museo dell\u2019Impero Romano che, prendendo come modelli il <em>R\u00f6misch Germanisches Zentralmuseum di Mainz<\/em> e il <em>Mus\u00e9e des antiquit\u00e9s nationales de Saint-Germain-en-Laye<\/em>, offre una soluzione espositiva stabile alle collezioni di calchi della Mostra archeologica del 1911. Queste collezioni diventano poi uno strumento a supporto dell\u2019ideologia fascista rispettando pienamente il corollario della \u00abmissione imperiale\u00bb, come testimonia il caso delle <em>Galliae<\/em> nella Mostra Augustea della Romanit\u00e0 del 1937-1938.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A new myth of Rome in Fascist culture. The Museum of the Roman Empire (1927), the Augustan Exhibition of <em>Romanit\u00e0<\/em> (1937-38) and the example of the <em>Galliae.<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The idea of ancient Rome and <em>Romanit\u00e0 <\/em>(\u2018Roman-ness\u2019) can be considered as an example of \u00abthe invention of tradition\u00bb (Hobsbawm, Ranger 1983). This idea \u2013 elevated to the rank of myth \u2013 interpenetrates processes of the creation of national identities and legitimates political choices and authorities across Europe. One example relevant to Italy is the Fascist interpretation of this myth, with its corollary concepts of \u00abprimacy\u00bb, of \u00abcontinuity\u00bb, of \u00abimperial mission\u00bb (Canfora 1976). A material witness of this myth can be found in the Museum of the Roman Empire that, following the examples of the <em>R\u00f6misch Germanisches Zentralmuseum <\/em>of Mainz and the <em>Mus\u00e9e des antiquit\u00e9s nationales de Saint-Germain-en<\/em>&#8211;<em>Laye<\/em>, provided a stable exhibition venue for the collections of plaster models from the Archaeological Exhibition of 1911.
